LE FIEF NOIR

THE VINEYARD

Le Fief Noir is an Estate of 30 hectares in the centre of the Anjou Noir, near Angers, in the municipality of Saint-Lambert du Lattay.

Noir, or “Black”, due to the stone which composed its subsoil: The Schist.

Le Fief Noir cultivates their grape following an organic way.

Chenin, Cabernet and Grolleau grow on a wealthy soil with a high diversity.

Le Fief Noir believes that the soil is the paramount element of winemaking, the starting point. One must choose the right grape variety based on the soil composition, work on the soil to encourage the development of the vine roots through the years, remove weeds which compete with the vines, and/or help the soil to heat up at the end of winter.

Le Fief Noir do a lot of manual operation to preserve the grape. The manual harvest allows them to keep all the grape aromas and integrity. Their objective: render at its best the unique taste of Anjou.

DOMINIQUE & ALEXIS

Alexis Soulas

Before dreaming about wine, he first wanted to become a vet or a republican guard! But more seriously, he grew up in Paris, with numerous stays in the countryside. He studied agronomy before questioning his ability to spend his entire career behind a desk and screen. Alexis needed something more sensory, more carnal, where the taste and the manual labour would have a place. The wine stood out as an evidence and started his wine journey in Bordeaux where he studies oenology, and subsequently Corsica where he obtained his first employment.

Dominique Sirot

It is in Corsica Alexis and Dominique met. Dominique was studying History and woke up one morning with a strong memory of his dream: he was in a hammock, at sunset, near a vineyard. It may sound crazy but this dream was a revelation. Nothing predestined Dominique to entrepreneurship or wine. But he welcomed this sign which symbolised his need to return to the earth. Dominique settled down in Bordeaux, followed a formation in vine growing-oenology, then another formation in oenology. Before going to work in Corsica.
